Whenever you’re invited to a baby shower those feelings of excitement over the new baby are sometimes squashed when you have to figure out what to buy for the new mom. I am always fine when it comes to getting them cards because I discovered BanterCards which have The Best Funny Cards for All Occasions, but I am always stumped on finding the perfect gift that the new mom will actually find useful. There are tons of baby shower gift guides on the internet to give you ideas. Me, personally, I love to gift very practical items and to let the clothing and bigger items be chosen by the parents. However, I will say that one item that I think you should always buy as a baby shower gift is an educational book.
As a child, I loved to read and to get books to read. I don’t know how into books I was as an infant/toddler; but, once I could read, there was no stopping me. As a mom, I’ve been careful to select books that I think would bring value to my daughter’s life. At her baby shower, I didn’t get many books. I wish I had realized the trend existed back then to ask for books for the baby instead of cards. Getting a ton of books is so beneficial to the baby and the parents. Not only is the child’s little library already started, but you are making reading a thoughtless chore for the parents. All they have to do is a pick a book off the shelf and start making memories.
If you’re looking for a baby shower gift, I think you should a) get a book and b) it should be Hey, Baby: A Collection of Pictures, Poems, and Stories from Nature’s Nursery. This book is part of National Geographic Kids books and a gorgeous addition to any library. The photographs are beautiful, the stories are engaging, and the poems are so unique for an educational book about animals. National Geographic Kids did a fantastic job on this book. It’s National Geographic afterall, what did you expect?
Don’t be fooled when I say this is a baby shower gift because this book is anything but baby (well except for the adorable babies inside). You are getting a big, hardback book with almost 200 pages of gorgeous color photos and engaging content. This isn’t a book that the baby will be able to carry right away. The book itself is sectioned by habitats with each section containing: poems, stories, and the adorable yet factual Tot Lot section at the end. You’ll get to awe over baby animal photos and learn some fun facts like did you know baby porcupines are called porcupettes? I didn’t, but that is the most adorable thing I’ve ever heard! You’ll see profiles and pictures for a plethora of animals. Some of the animals featured will include heartwarming stories of rescue, friendships, and global folktales.
National Geographic Kids designed Hey, Baby to be a lifelong, entire family book of sorts. As a parent looking at this book, I am gushing over the photos, stunned over the information, and learning so much. Harper loves this book, and I can see her loving it even more when she’s ready to read it herself!
